Using
the Briar Blade
Jackson
Davis

|
I cut down weeds the
way they did, the briar blade swung
from right to left,
its heft clearing the swath.
I could use new tools but
it wouldn't feel right. There's
something to the old way
of cleaving.
"How lucky you are,"
friends say, "to have
your family house."
You're right, I never say,
all it cost me was to lose them.

About
the Author
Born then,
not dead yet.
Fairly well-read; on occasion somewhat agreeable to talk
with.
Thinks good country folk are, in fact, God's Chosen
People, and thanks his God for Jane.
"No other marks or brands recollected," as Lincoln
repeated.
